Easy Black Bean Soup

This Black Bean Soup is perfect for those Autumn nights. It is smokey, filling and super easy to make! It comes together in only 30 minutes and is Vegitarian! You can definitely add some meat for the protein if you’d like. Now let’s get cookin!

Yeilds: 4 Servings


-1 can of black beans (16 oz)

-1/2 a 16 oz can of crushed tomato or tomato sauce

-1 chopped Onion

-1 chopped Celery

-1 chopped Carrot

-1 cup of your favorite broth or 1 chicken cube with a cup of water

-1 1/2 tsp of Salt

-1 tsp of Black pepper

-1 tsp of Red Chili Powder

-1 tsp of dried Oregano or Italian Seasoning

-1/2 tsp of Smoked Paprika

-1 tsp of minced Garlic

-3 tsp of Vegetable Oil

-1/4 cup of yogurt

-1 tsp of lemon juice

-1/4 tsp of brown sugar


1). In a large pot, on medium heat saute your onion, carrot and celery with the oil for about 5 minutes until everything has softened.

2) Add in the garlic and spices and cook for one minutes until the garlic becomes fragrant ( 1 minute).

3) Add in the rinsed black beans, tomato sauce and broth and let this simmer for about 15 minutes. You may need to add in more water depending on the thickness of the soup.

4). After 15 minutes, add in the sugar and lemon juice and turn off the heat.

5). Add in your yogurt slowly to prevent it from curdling and mix as you pour. Do this in batches until all of the yogurt has been incorporated. Turn the heat back on to medium and let it simmer for about 5 more minutes.

6). Garnish with cilantro and green onions and Enjoy 🙂
